Since long ago, there have been two separate worlds—Earth as known by humans, and Metamoor, where spirits and fantastic creatures reside. W.I.T.C.H. is based off of the 2001 Italian Disney comic of the same name, which also received a 52-episode TV show from December 18, 2004 to December 23, 2006. The manga adaptation covers the first three issues of the original comic, which was never published in Japan. The manga series was collected into two tankoubon volumes from December 17, 2003 to March 17, 2004.

At 6:29 p.m. on October 31 in Maryland, America, a little boy named Alex draws his last breath while still dressed in his Halloween costume. At 12:25 a.m. on the same day in Saxony, Germany, Rite Auer is a child of similar age to Alex who dies alongside him.
